Christian Civility

This special lecture was given on Wednesday night, February 25 by Dr. Richard Mouw

When we look around us, from Washington, DC to the church, we see a growing inability to remain in relationship with those with whom we disagree. We have seen the short- and long-term effects surrounding contentious denominational issues. The issues can lead to churches splitting, resulting in some members literally considering one another enemies with whom they will not even speak.

In the face of such contentiousness in our culture, we are fortunate to have Dr. Richard Mouw coming  to Houston to speak to us about learning to remain civil and respectful even during the most difficult of debates.  Dr. Mouw is the former President of Fuller Theological Seminary and someone passionately committed to helping the church learn to discuss contentious issues in a more effective and Christ-like way. He also happens to be a fantastic speaker!

Uncommon Decency: Christian Civility in an Uncivil World is the title of Dr. Richard Mouw’s book. Dr. Mouw spoke at St. Andrew’s  on the need for a renewed focus on Christian civility. This event took place on Wednesday, February 25th at 7:00  pm in the Warren Family Center.

As important as the “hot” topics debated among Christians today are, learning to love your enemy, learning to be able to disagree on such emotionally charged issues and yet remain in relationship with one another is at the forefront of God’s desire for the church today.
